Spain: bad debts on the rise

Last November non-performing loans in the portfolio of Spanish banks reached a new record, reaching 11,38% of the total from 11,23% the previous month. This was reported by the Bank of Spain.

The total value of non-performing loans, adds the institute, has reached i 191,63 billion euros.

The EU has made loans available to Madrid up to 100 billion in order to recapitalize its banking sector, sunk by the toxic assets left by the explosion of the real estate bubble in 2008.

So far Spain has received 39,5 billion from Brussels, most of which paid to the 4 most troubled banks.
