Sotheby's, an auction to celebrate the XNUMXth anniversary of the Bauhaus

The Bauhaus school, which had offices in Weimar, Berlin and Dessau, is celebrating its birthday and the English auction house celebrates the event with a double event on February 26 and 27, auctioning some works by Kandinsky, Klee, Schlemmer , László Moholy-Nagy and Lyonel Feininger.

The best known and most influential German school of Art and Design born in 1919 and which has revolutionized the concept of architecture in the twentieth century celebrates his XNUMXth anniversariesor. 'The Bauhaus is believed to be one of the birthplaces of modern art and design and on the centenary of its foundation we are delighted to celebrate its genesis, the art that was produced there and the influence it has had on generations of artists , designers and architects. We are very honored to be able to offer a spectacular painting by Kandinsky dating from that period alongside an important work by Oskar Schlemmer, two rarities in the auction landscape," he commented. The London auction house Sotheby's celebrates this birth by proposing in the Impressionist and Modern Art auctions a selection of works created by the artists who made the history of the Bauhaus, who taught there and whose style was largely influenced by it.

The two auctions will take place on February 26 and 27 and include works by important exponents of the movement, including Wassily KandinskyPaul KleeOscar SchlemmerLászló Moholy-Nagy e Lyonel Feininger.

Some of the lots up for auction are: Thorough impulse of Wassily Kandinsky, oil on canvas from 1928 estimated between £5,500,000 and £7,500,000and, Junger Blaumond (Young Blue-Moon) by Paul Klee, of 1918 estimated at between £70,000 and £100,000 and finally Tischgesellschaft (Group at Table) by Oskar Schlemmer of 1923, estimated between 1,000,000 and 1,500,000 pounds.

To found the school which had locations in Weimar, Dessau and Berlin was Walter Gropius in 1919. The Bauhaus set out to unite the disciplines of art, architecture and design and remained in operation until its closure by the Nazis in 1933.
