"Fine Sedimentary Stone Stele Depicting Scenes from the Life of Buddha” is a magnificent work dating back to the 100th-150,000th century (estimated at XNUMX/XNUMX dollars) and was previously on display at the Brooklyn Museum in New York.

Forming part of a group of miniature sculptures, the work was used as a pledge for pilgrims from eastern India to Tibet and Burma. The reliquary is a depiction of Buddha's triumph over Mara as they sit under the Bodh Gaya tree.

Qianlong-period is a rare bronze depicting Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion, encompassing the traditions of Indian sculpture (estimated 250/350,000 dollars). Large bronzes like this were famous during the Qianlong empire, which commissioned many representative statues of the Buddha, Bodhisattvas and deities of the Tibetan Pantheon. The emperor assiduously collected ancient bronzes from India, Kashmir and Nepal and this bronze represents an important testimony to this.

The auction The Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian Works of Art also features Gilt-Bronze Figure Depicting a Dakini from Tibet, 250th-350,000th century (estimated XNUMX/XNUMX), centered on the figures of Chakrasamvara and his consort Vajravarahi. The attention to detail makes this bronze memorable: note, for example, the lotus in the center of the tiara with its pearl and foliate garland, elaborate jewels and ornaments.

Also up for auction are ritual objects, sculptures, paintings and miniatures from the property of Dr. Claus Virch. The exhibition will be open to the public on March 10, while the auction will be on March 16.
