Sotheby's to auction a monumental painting by Jackson Pollock in New York

On May 13th in New York Sotheby's is auctioning a canvas of monumental dimensions by Pollock, “Blue Unconscious”, painted in 1946, before the artist found his international consecration.

Il May 14, 2013 during the Contemporary Art Evening Sale at Sotheby's in New York it will be auctioned The Blue Unconscious di Jackson Pollock (esteem 20/30 million USD).

The monumentally sized canvas (84 x 56 in., 213.4 x 142.1 cm.) was painted in 1946, shortly before the consecration of the artist and his drip painting.

Pollock created the work in the famous studio barn at his Long Island home, where he had moved with his wife, Lee Krasner, to escape the frenzy of the New York art world.

The canvas remained in private hands for 50 years and last appeared at auction at Parke-Bernet in New York in 1965. Last November Sotheby's set the auction record for Pollock with Number 4, 1951 sold for USD 40,402,500 (estimate USD 25-35 million).
