Sustainability, Terna and Pirelli top the Dow Jones index

The company chaired by Catia Bastioli and led by Luigi Ferraris scores 90 points and confirms itself as world leader in the Electric Utilities sector – Pirelli also leads the way in the Automobiles & Components sector

Sustainability, Terna and Pirelli top the Dow Jones index

Terna, the company that manages the national electricity transmission grid, is confirmed at world leader in the sector Electric Utilities for sustainability performance. This is the result of the annual assessment conducted by the Swiss sustainability rating agency RobecoSAM, which communicated Terna's permanence in the World index and in the more restricted Europe index.

Terna achieved a overall score of 90/100 (industry average: 45/100) ranking ahead of all 77 companies evaluated in the Electric Utilities sector The primacy is confirmed in 9 of the 24 evaluation criteria applicable to the company: Terna is first in the economic criteria Materiality, Code of business conduct, Innovation management and Privacy protection (new criterion added this year), in the environmental criteria Environmental reporting, Biodiversity, Transmission and distribution and in the social criteria Social reporting, Corporate citizenship and philanthropy. In the last five years it had never happened that a company in the sector was first for two consecutive years.

“For Terna, sustainability is first of all represented by the objective of promoting the energy transition by facilitating the development of renewable sources – commented the Chief Executive Officer Luigi Ferraris. “Sustainability for Terna means developing a green new deal in all the components that characterize it. For this reason, the confirmation of the sectoral leadership in the Dow Jones Sustainability index is a source of pride for us but also a source of new incentives to improve”.

The RobecoSAM agency evaluates the sustainability performance of companies with the largest capitalization every year. In 2019 it included some in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index 318 starting from a total of 2526 large companies operating in 27 countries. Among these, another Italian also stands out, Pirelli, which is confirmed as the world leader in Sustainability for the Automobiles & Components sector in the Dow Jones Sustainability World and Europe indices. The Bicocca group recorded an overall score of 85 points, against the sector average of 36.
