Sustainability, the Enav campaign at Fiumicino

Sustainability, the Enav campaign at Fiumicino

ENAV, in agreement with ENAC, has installed it on the shaft of the Rome Fiumicino control tower three maxi panels visible from the airport grounds and from the Terminals, in order to spread a message aimed at the sustainable development of air transport.

The initiative, unique of its kind in Italy and in terms of size at European level, is accompanied by ad hoc graphics to disseminate the daily commitment made by ENAV and ENAC in relation to the issue of sustainability: “We look up to clean and safe skies” the claim used.

Among the ENAV projects dedicated to sustainability, the Free Route has brought great environmental benefits. This procedure allows all aircraft flying over an altitude of over 9.000 meters to cross the Italian skies with a direct route without referring to the route network which, starting from that altitude, has been completely eliminated.

Thanks to the Free Route since December 2016 (the date on which ENAV activated the procedure) 120 million kg of fuel have been saved globally due to lower emissions equal to 370 million kg of CO2. The greater efficiency of the trajectories has allowed airlines to fly about 20 million km less in Italian airspace.

The graphics, measuring 220 mXNUMX, positioned on three sides of the Control Tower, are highly visible to the millions of passengers who pass through the airport every year.
