Sos steel, ceramics, glass, paper: all on hold due to high energy prices

The situation of entire production sectors due to high energy is increasingly critical - Monday summit in Torbole to study solutions

Sos steel, ceramics, glass, paper: all on hold due to high energy prices

It can't go on like this. The high-energy price is bringing to its knees many productive activities. In Italy there are countless steel mills, foundries, glass factories, paper mills, cement factories and aluminum factories forced to close because the high energy and high gas prices are strangling them. And the coming month of January will be the month of truth: either things change and costs become manageable again or the closures risk having no return or at least long-term, to the benefit of foreign but also national competition which can gain shares of market.

To deal with the emergency and find solutions, on Monday 27 December there will be a summit in Torbole, on Lake Garda, of Assofond, Confindustria Ceramica, Assocarta and Assovetro. Federacciai is also on the alert.

And to think that the market is buoyant and that there is no shortage of orders but for the companies in question the costs have become unsustainable: either they produce at a loss waiting for better times or they close.
