US surprise, unemployment falls to lowest since 2009 (8,6%)

The US closes the week with a nice surprise: November unemployment fell to 8,6% – the minimum since March 2009 – against 120 new jobs created. The US Department of Labor reported.

The data on new jobs is in line with expectations, on average economists expected stable unemployment at 9%. Breaking this down, the private sector added 140 new jobs while the public sector lost 20 jobs.

The number of unemployed therefore decreased by 594 thousand units to 13,3 millioni, while the underemployed rate – those looking for work or part-time work but would like a full-time job – dropped to 15,6% from 16,2% in October.
