Surprise Slovakia, Parliament's yes to the EFSF

Surprise Slovakia, Parliament's yes to the EFSF

The yes from Bratislava on the strengthening of the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) arrived surprisingly and a day early. Yesterday the no to the government's trust had automatically led to a second discussion in Parliament, which approved the provision with a second vote today. In exchange, however, the majority of the Freedom and Solidarity Party (Sas) had to guarantee early elections to the opposition.

Slovakia was the last of the 17 member countries of the euro area to pronounce itself to approve the enlargement to 440 billion euros of the bailout fund.
