Sony World Photography Awards, registrations open

The World Photography Organization has opened the 2019th annual Sony World Photography Awards, the world's most diverse photography competition. To celebrate its continued presence as the leading global photography competition, it is announcing three new categories for XNUMX.

Sony World Photography Awards, registrations open

Created by the World Photography Organization, the Sony World Photography Awards are an influential voice in the industry. Celebrating the best contemporary photography of the past year, the awards provide broad exposure, exposure and opportunity to photographers from around the world. Prize entries are free at www.worldphoto.org.

Photographers from around the world are invited to participate in the four awards competitions:

Professional, with professional and extraordinary works between 5-10 images in ten categories;

Open, which awards the world's best single images in ten categories,

Youth, a short briefing for emerging talent aged 12-19,

Student, for photography students from all over the world.

The National Awards program will also reward local photographic talent.

Sony Grant:

Introduced in 2016, Sony Grants offer previous award winners additional opportunities to develop and showcase their work and establish an ongoing relationship with Sony after the Awards. Recipients are chosen by Sony* from the winning and shortlisted photographers of the awards' professional and student competitions.

The 2018 Sony Grant recipients are today announced as Alys Tomlinson (UK), Luca Locatelli (Italy), Tom Oldham (UK) and Balazs Gardi (Hungary). Each receives $7.000 (USD) to develop their own project over the next year, with the resulting images exhibited at the 2019 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London.

The recipients of the 2018 Student Sony Grant are revealed as Morgan Mulholland (South Africa), Anshul Mehrotra (India) and Cao Hongmei (China). Each student will receive $3,500 (USD) to develop a collaborative project from Sony and the World Organization of Photography which will also be exhibited in London.

Terms and information

Photographers have until 30 November 2018 to enter the Student competition, 4 January 2019 for the Open and Youth competitions, and 11 January 2019 for Professional. The full contest with category descriptions are available at www.worldphoto.org
