Sony Pictures under hacker attack, North Korean trail

Last week Sony Pictures Entertainment, the Japanese giant of television and film production and distribution, suffered a cyber attack by unknown hackers that disrupted the internal network causing a massive data leak.

As the days go by, a scenario is taking shape in which the hand of hackers would have acted under the mandate of the North Korean authorities. The Re/code website, which offers news, market analyzes and comments on the world of technology, reported that the attack would have been related to the distribution, which Sony Pictures was preparing to do in Japan, of the film US "The Interview", which tells the story of two American journalists asked by the CIA to kill President Kim Jong-un on the occasion of the interview that the two plan to do with the North Korean leader.

The film, which is scheduled for a December 25, 2014 release, had already infuriated the North Korean authorities and warnings of "heavy retaliation" were circulating in the national media for anyone who distributed the feature film. Also according to the Re/code website, which cites sources very close to Sony's top management, the Japanese multinational is believed to be firmly convinced, although decisive evidence has not yet emerged, of North Korean responsibility.

The hired hackers would have operated from China, but the mandates would be North Koreans. All that is known for certain today is that an image appeared on the social network Reddit in the aftermath of the attack, posted by someone who claimed to be a former employee of Sony, showing a page on which stood out the words " Hacked by #GOP”, accompanied by various symbols of death. According to some, a group of hackers called the "Guardians of the Peace" are hiding behind the acronym GOP.
