Sogin extends competition on deposit and Park

Sogin has extended the deadline for the call for ideas for the “Officina Futuro” competition to 15 January 2016.
The competition, aimed at both professionals – such as architects, planners, engineers and landscape architects – and students of technical faculties, aims to collect the best architectural concept proposals for the future Technology Park which will be built within the National Repository, the area where radioactive waste from nuclear medicine, industrial and research activities and from Italian nuclear plants, currently being dismantled, will be placed.

The Technology Park will be an international research and training center dedicated, in particular, to studies in the field of nuclear plant decommissioning, radioactive waste management and environmental protection.
The objective of "Officina Futuro" is, therefore, to acquire an "intervention model" for the creation of the Technology Park. In this way, the community that will host the Deposit will have the opportunity to have an attractive and high-tech "model of structure", which represents an added value and a distinctive feature for the territory.

In the Professionals category, the 10 best "intervention models" for the Technology Park will be awarded. Sogin will award a prize of 50 euros to the winner, while the remaining 9 will receive a prize of 20 euros each. For the Students section, the 5 best "intervention proposal" ideas will be awarded a reimbursement of expenses of 1.000 euros each.

The winning projects of both sections – Professionals and Students – will be exhibited during the events of the public consultation for the location of the National Repository and Technology Park. This phase will start when, having obtained the clearance from the Ministries of Economic Development and the Environment, Sogin will publish the National Map of Potentially Suitable Areas (CNAPI) on the website www.depositonazionale.it, together with the Preliminary Project.
The announcement is available on the website www.sogin.it and questions for clarification can be sent by 30 October 2015 to officinafuturo@sogin.it.
