The total stock of the national energy system, including strategic storage, is 18,7 billion standard cubic meters.

Snam: 98,5% full storage at the end of the injection campaign. Venier: we face the winter season with confidence

Snam announced that, at the end of the injection campaign concluded last October 31st, the filling level of the Italian storage has reached one percentage of 98,5%, for a total of 18,7 billion cubic meters, between modulation storage (13,9 billion cubic meters, which exceeds the record level already recorded last year of approximately 13,6 billion cubic meters) and strategic storage (4,8 billion cubic meters), compared to an average filling level of storage in Europe of approximately 95%.

This figure takes into account both the storage of Stogit (a company 100% owned by Snam) which reached 17,4 billion cubic meters overall, including modulation storage (12,7 billion cubic meters) and strategic storage (4,7 billion cubic meters), and that of other operators.

“The conclusion of the injection campaign allows us to look forward to the winter season with confidence, despite the constant volatility and uncertainty that characterises global markets,” commented Snam’s CEO, Stefano Venier. “This year too we achieved this result thanks to a systemic action that actively involved both the various components of the Government and Arera, as well as the main operators, in addition to Snam”.

This amount allows to largely exceed the 90% target foreseen by European legislation and nationally, considering that storage will be able to meet approximately 25%-30% of daily demand in the coldest months of the year.

This result was also possible thanks to the actions undertaken by Snam last thermal year to maintain gas in storage during the winter period, such as the offer of counterflow services, which allowed Snam storage to begin the summer replenishment campaign with an initial filling level in April 2024 equal to approximately 60% of capacity.

During the next supply campaign, Snam will continue its commitment to offering services to support market operators in maintaining gas in storage during the peak winter consumption period, such as counterflow and residual storage services.
