Snam extends sustainable mobility with LNG to Austria

Snam promotes sustainable mobility in Austria. The company led by Marco Alverà, the investee TAG and OMV have signed an agreement that encourages green mobility using liquefied natural gas.

The memorandum of understanding was signed in Austria by the CEO of Snam Marco Alverà, the Managing Directors of TAG GmbH, Daniele Gamba and Rudolf Starze and the CEO of OMV, Rainer Seele. The agreement plans to explore potential opportunities for LNG in the Austrian transport sector which will range from the possible construction of a small-scale liquefaction plant (LNG small-scale) to the development of LNG supplies and the market in the country.

Marco Alvera, CEO of Snam, explained the objectives of the agreement: “With this collaboration we want to promote sustainable natural gas mobility in Austria, leveraging on our successful experience in Italy. Our country has the largest number of compressed (over 1.300) and liquefied (over 50) natural gas distributors in Europe and Snam is investing to further strengthen the network. Gas is the most immediate solution to reduce fine dust pollution and CO2 emissions in light and heavy transport, as well as having great potential in maritime and rail transport. Furthermore, thanks to biomethane and bio-LNG, it is gradually becoming a renewable resource, paving the way for further decarbonisation of mobility”.

Also Rainer soul he provided further details on the agreement: “We believe – he said – that the demand for LNG on the road is destined to grow. Studies estimate that in Europe the number of LNG trucks will increase to 280.000 by 2030, making transport more sustainable. This is why it is important to develop the infrastructure for the supply of this fuel”.

Meanwhile, in Piazza Affari, the Snam stock it gains 1,63% to 4,538 euros, achieving one of the best performances of the Ftse Mib which at the opening rises by 0,19% to 21.940 points.
