Smog, cars and motorcycles: from Monday to Wednesday total blockage in Milan and alternating number plates on the 28th and 29th in Rome

SMOG ALARM - From Monday to Wednesday the total blockade of cars and motorcycles will be triggered from 10 to 16 in Milan and in the neighboring municipalities due to the high rate of pollution recorded - Rome instead reverses: only alternating number plates between Monday and Tuesday after a initial propensity to imitate Milan with total blockade

Smog, cars and motorcycles: from Monday to Wednesday total blockage in Milan and alternating number plates on the 28th and 29th in Rome

The smog emergency continues in the main Italian cities. AFTER 28 days in a row of illegal dust, the Municipality of Milan has decreed the total stop to circulation from Monday to Wednesday between 10 and 16. The blockade will apply in the Lombard capital and in the neighboring centers for both cars and motorbikes . A similar measure had also been taken at first by the Municipality of Rome, which however then reversed, opting for a less drastic circulation with alternating number plates between Monday and Tuesday.

“All scientific studies show that in order to be more effective, the measures against air pollution must concern a vast territory and not just individual municipalities – says the mayor of Milan, Giuliano Pisapia, who is also mayor of the metropolitan city – In these days of great emergency we cannot remain indifferent and it is necessary to take shared actions because the health of citizens is an asset to be preserved at all costs. For this reason, I invite all the municipalities in the area to take measures such as the one adopted by Milan".

From Rome, the Municipality commissioner had decided to follow the same path, only to change its mind after the blockade had already been ordered. In fact, the Campidoglio first announced the block on the circulation of private cars for two consecutive days, Monday 28 and Tuesday 29, from 10 to 16. It was not an indiscretion: the Municipality had issued an official press release and the Municipal Police been warned. But something didn't work in the municipal halls, given that the Municipality itself first distanced itself from its own decision ("we are evaluating") and then - at the end of a long meeting with the technicians - Commissioner Tronca changed his mind: only alternate plates in the green band.
