Surfing yes, but on the street, not in the depths of the network. This must be the real need for those who have a smartphone in their pocket, given that Google Maps is the most downloaded application in the world in the second quarter of 2013. The data comes from the GlobalWebIndex agency, which periodically compiles a ranking of the most used apps by approximately 970 million mobile device owners around the globe.

Google maps therefore conquer the top step of the podium, with 54 percent of users. Only in second place is Facebook, behind by ten points. Bronze for Youtube, which stops at 35 percent.

Still wanting social networks in fourth position, with Google +, Mountain View's answer to Mark Zuckerberg. A platform that is struggling to take off, but which in this case could be driven by Android-based mobile phones. Quite a surprise, fifth place for the Chinese of Weixing/WeChat, who are also implementing an increasingly aggressive advertising policy in the West.

Sixth tied for Twitter, Skype and Facebook Messenger. Whatsapp also finds a place in the standings, ninth, perhaps penalized by the introduction of the paid service, and Instagram, tenth.
