Smartphones and PCs, the cost of private copying is rising

The government has decided to lift the fees for private copying on computers, tablets and other storage devices. These are the sums to be paid to SIAE for the devices in which copyrighted material can be stored. The increase was included in the draft decree of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage.

The rise on computer, as well as the one on smartphone e tablets over 128 gigabytes, it is from 5,20 to 6,90 euros.

Also new is that the private copying fee will also apply to SmartWatch, which will be subject to a levy of between 2,20 and 5,60 euros, depending on memory.

However, there is also some downward revision. In fact, the new system provides for reading filings for USB cards, memory cards and blank media.

Businesses have already started protesting. "It is a proposal for a decree that will probably end up penalizing innovation - said Marco Gay, president of Anitec-Assinform - and which goes against the habits of consumers who no longer resort to private copying to enjoy audiovisual content" .
