Smart City: ZTE conquers Brescia, intelligent parking and lighting arrive

Brescia will become the first Smart City in Italy, this is promised by Hu Kun, managing director for Italy of ZTE, one of the major providers of telecommunications products and services at a global level which has decided to start from the Lombard city and then extend its project to the main Italian capitals, from Rome in Milan, from Turin to Naples.

What does Smart City mean? The same Chinese ad explained it today during a press conference held at the headquarters of the Province of Brescia, with the president Pier Luigi Mottinelli, and Giuliano Noci, professor of marketing at the Milan Polytechnic and Pro-Rector of the Chinese territorial hub of the University.

The giant intends to propose to the public administrations a project aimed at making Italian cities "smarter" through the introduction of three fundamental elements: cloud services for data archiving, fiber networks for Internet connection and sensor networks for 3D mapping of the territory. One already tested by ZTE itself in over 140 urban contexts in 40 different countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa.

All this translates into two technologies that could soon be available in the Brescia area: the "Smart Roadside parking" and the "BluePillar Smart Lighting Solution".

The first is a system designed for reduce city traffic reducing parking search times. Through an app, users will be able to view, in real time, if there is one a free parking availableAnd. Not only that, the application will also indicate which is the fastest route to reach the rest areas, leading to a reduction in traffic of over 30% according to the company's intentions. Furthermore, it is possible to extend the time spent in the car park without having to reach the vehicle again and make the payment online.

But the advantages would not be only for citizens, because the system implemented by the Chinese giant led by Hu Kun would allow local administrations to obtain triple revenues from tolls compared to those that would be collected using traditional methods. Ultimately, this solution would allow municipalities to adjust tariff bands based on traffic peaks and to constantly monitor parking areas.

As for "BluePillar Smart Lighting", it is a technology that allows you to use a single light pole for four different functions. Street lighting it is guaranteed by energy-saving LED lamps that communicate with the system (machine-to-machine) and can be adjusted automatically. At the same time, a wireless connection via hotspot is provided and advertising messages are broadcast on the screens. Finally, a recharging point for electric cars is made available to motorists, further strengthening the incentives for sustainable mobility.

“The Province of Brescia wants to make the digital transformation easier for businesses and institutions in our territories, aware that this will support socio-economic development in the coming years,” said the president of the Province, Pier Luigi Mottinelli.

"Our idea - added Hu Kun - is to promote an increasingly intelligent model of Smart City, starting from Brescia, making available to the territories the wealth of technological skills that we have developed over the years, in a country like Italy that we would like to become our European hub”.
