How much does a ski week cost me? Next weekend will bring with it one new cold wave, fueling optimism for the winter tourism but with the snow there will also come an icy shower for consumers. The Federconsumatori National Observatory predicts, in fact, significant increases in costs for ski holidays.
An average family spends more than 7 thousand euros
Specifically, the Observatory analyzed the detailed costs for one family of 4 during a ski week (7 days and 6 nights) in renowned Italian ski resorts. The monitoring covered equipment rental, hotel, meals and ski passes in the main ski destinations of Veneto, Valle d'Aosta, Trentino-Alto Adige, Lombardy, Abruzzo and central Italy.
The results indicate prohibitive costs: In the 2023-2024 season, a household is expected to spend in average 7.104,96 euros, registering a 11% increase compared to the previous season.
Veneto the most expensive region
The greatest increases, notes Federconsumatori, occur mostly weekly ski pass (+18%), equipment rental (+10%) and hotels (+13%).
Il Veneto remains the most expensive destination, with a cost of 2.113,17 euros per person, while in Abruzzo or central Italy the cost drops to around 1.442,72 euros per person.
Another element to take into consideration is the cost of travel (petrol and toll): for example, from Milan to Cortina d'Ampezzo it is estimated at around 89 euros one way, from Rome to Roccaraso around 36 euros, and from Turin to Cervinia 27 euros. Almost a luxury for many Italians.
Short and cheap stays for Italians. Foreigners are growing
According to Federconsumatori "the prohibitive costs make holidays at high altitude more elite". Despite this, yes expect a high influx of visitors: on the one hand, the foreign tourism will help offset the financial difficulties of Italian families; on the other, many Italians, eager to maintain the mountain experience, will opt for shorter stays (3-4 days) and solutions cheaper overnight stay such as apartments, b&bs and hostels.
