Sirti, no agreement: unions proclaim strike

Nothing happened in the meeting held at Assolombarda in Milan, the first after the formalization of the 833 redundancies by Sirti, a leading company in the telephone installation sector. Faced with an initial opening to think about alternative tools to layoffs, the company has rejected the requests made by the trade union organizations and the RSU for a suspension of the procedure.

“Dealing with the stopwatch is an unacceptable condition – they said in a joint statement Marco Giglio, Pietro Locatelli and Michele Paliani, national coordinators of Fim, Fiom, Uilm Sirti –, for this reason the trade union delegation jointly proclaimed "the week of the struggle" with demonstrations and garrisons at an interregional level, with an 8-hour strike, articulated from 11 to 15 March".

In preparation for the national mobilization, information assemblies are scheduled for next week at all Sirti sites, accompanied "by the necessary fighting actions. We ask the company to agree on the "zero redundancies" objective, through social shock absorbers accompanying retirement, the use of conservative shock absorbers for the workplace, the reduction in the use of sub-contracts and professional retraining" .

"We ask the government - concluded the union representatives - to convene all the parties involved in the sector for various reasons, to set up a permanent national table in the sector which, starting from the dramatic Sirti dispute, can give immediate answers and perspectives for the safeguarding jobs and determining trendy industrial policies for such a strategic sector for the country".
