Unstoppable during a match in which he never seemed in difficulty, the Italian champion defeated in the final Alexander Zverev number 2 in the ATP ranking, in three sets. The progress of the match can be summed up in the words pronounced by Zverev at the end of the match: “I thought I was more competitive, but you are too strong, the answer is too simple. No one deserves it more than you,” he said, addressing the blue one. 

For Sinner it is about the third slam won in his career, after the Australian Open and the US Open won last year, the nineteenth title in total. The South Tyrolean tennis player is also the only Italian, man or woman, with three titles in the Majors in singles. “Getting these results is beautiful, but even more so sharing them with my team and my family,” Sinner said after the victory.

How much did Sinner win at the Australian Open: the prize money

His second victory at the Australian Open is not only a sporting achievement, but also a significant profit. Having won the final, Sinner has in fact earned a jackpot equal to 3,5 million of Australian dollars (about $2,2 million), an increase of more than $200 from last year, when he took home $1,9 million thanks to his triumph over Russia's Daniil Medvedev.

The loser Alexander Zverev will instead be able to console himself with 1,9 million Australian dollars, approximately 1,18 million US dollars.

Sinner reached the Australian Open final with a total of 11.130 points, +2995 on second place Zverev, stuck at 8135 points. With the triumph in Melbourne, the Italian tennis player therefore rises to XNUMX points. 11.830 points, widening the gap on Zverev at -3695. In third place is then Carlos Alcaraz, who went out in the quarter-finals against Novak Djokovic, and is stuck at 7.010.
