Siemens and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries evaluate offer for some Alstom activities

Siemens and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (Mhi) are evaluating a joint offer for "certain activities" of the French Alstom. The German group and the Japanese company let it be known that "they will decide by 16 June whether or not to submit an official offer to Alstom's board of directors".

According to sources close to the dossier, the activities in question would concern Alstom's energy sector, for which General Electric (Ge) is also in the running. Meanwhile, Alstom warned against a possible dismantling of the company in the event of a joint Mhi/Siemens offer.

“Mhi has been invited by Siemens to team up for Alstom. We are convinced that we can make an important contribution to a partnership solution for Alstom, which will create added value for all parties involved, including the country of France,” Mhi boss Shinishi Miyanaga said in a joint statement with Siemens.

His counterpart at the German group, Joe Kaeser, said he was "happy to collaborate with Mhi to find a sustainable and long-term solution for Alstom, Mhi and Siemens". On the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, Siemens shares are down by 1,4%, while in Paris, Alstom shares are up slightly (+0,17%).
