Sicily: Right has the advantage, Pd collapses. And Di Maio cancels the debate with Renzi

The Democratic Party collapses in the Sicilian elections, where the candidate of the center-right, Nello Musumeci, and that of the 5 Star Movement, Giancarlo Cancelleri, are contending for the governor's seat. The count is still far from being concluded, but it has already produced a political consequence: Luigi Di Maio, leader of the M5S, has canceled the scheduled debate with the Dem secretary Matteo Renzi.

“I had asked for a confrontation with Renzi a few days ago, when he was the premier candidate of that political party – wrote Di Maio on Facebook – The earthquake of the vote in Sicily has completely changed this perspective. I will confront the person who will be nominated for prime minister by that party or that coalition. The Democratic Party is politically dead. Our competitor is no longer Renzi or the Democratic Party. Soon there will be a leadership of the Democratic Party where his role will be questioned ”.

The reaction of the president of the Democratic Party, Matteo Orfini, arrived via Twitter was not long in coming:

I hope Floris keeps up the confrontation. At the limit with an empty chair. You won't notice much of the difference anyway

The fourth Piepoli screening for Rai – on a coverage of 18% – essentially confirms exit poll forecasts: Musumeci is in the lead with 36% of the preferences (the coalition that supports him, however, is at 38,6%), while Cancelleri travels at 34% (with M5S at 27,2%). The Democratic Party candidate Fabrizio Micari does not go beyond 19,5% (the breakfast that supports him 25,9%), while Claudio Fava is confirmed at 9% and the Hundred Steps List at 7,3%.

The scrutiny proceeds slowly: 511 sections out of 5.300: Musumeci has so far obtained 40,10%, Cancelleri 34,8%, Micari 18,4% and Fava 6,1%.
