Shimon Peres hit by stroke: always serious

Shimon peres suffered a stroke: the historic Israeli leader, 93, is in stable but still serious conditions. He remains under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team of experts from the Sheba medical center in Tel Aviv. In a radio interview his son-in-law prof. Rafi Waldan (who is also Peres' attending physician) said that "there is no immediate danger to his life".

"There's a good chance he'll make it through the event," he added. At the moment he remains sedated "to give the maximum rest to the brain, and allow it to recover". During the night Peres was briefly awakened "and it was then possible to communicate with him". For the moment, Waldan added, it has in any case been decided "not to proceed with any operation, of do not take drastic measures. The lesson we have learned from Peres – he concluded – is to remain incorrigible optimists”.

Peres, born in Belarus in 1923, in recent months he had been hospitalized for heart problems: a few days ago he was in Italy, a guest of the Ambrosetti Forum in Cernobbio, of which he is a historic participant.
