Lo sharing mobility continues to growing up: more vehicles, more services and more turnover. In 2022 the number of rentals increased by 41% compared to 2021 and by 77% compared to pre-Covid (2019); the number of is also increasing services active in Italian cities - which went from 190 in 2021 to 211 in 2022 - and the number of mezzi available to sharing mobility users rose from 89 thousand to 113 thousand. 95% of the sharing fleet is zero emissions. Also the turnover overall generated by the sector has grown, exceeding 178 million euros in 2022, recording an increase of 38% compared to 2021. For the scooter-sharing, station-based carsharing and free-floating bikesharing sectors, an even increase in turnover between 2021 and 2022 equal to +48%, +72% and +95% respectively. Milan, then, is the third city in Europe for the increase in sharing micromobility in 2023. These are the main results that emerge from the seventh National report on sharing mobility presented in Rome on the occasion of the Conference “LESSCARS: decarbonization of urban mobility” organized by the National Observatory of Sharing Mobility, promoted by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security and the Foundation for Sustainable Development at the headquarters of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.

The role of Cdp

The commitment of CDP – in favor of sustainable growth – is found in the funding, initiatives e interventions also far-reaching ones implemented. During 2022, the Cassa invested 144 million euros in 83 public bodies and 6 companies for the development of sustainable urban mobility projects and for the improvement of local public transport. On sustainable mobility, again in 2022, Cdp contributed to strengthening and redeveloping approximately 403 km of roads and local public transport sections, demonstrating its commitment to the mobility sector also with respect to transport networks and infrastructures. As regards direct advisory in the Pnrr area for local public transport, Cdp has provided its services for 24 Tpl projects in the Pnrr area, for a total of 3,7 billion in resources of which 700 million in Bus Rapid Transit projects and 2 billion in Tramways.

Some examples

Looking at a time span from 2022 to today:

  • Charging columns. Cdp participated in a pool with other financial instructions, committing 13 million, to the loan in favor of Duferco Energia, for a total of 26 million, aimed at expanding the national network of charging stations for electric vehicles with approximately 1.800 new columns. Furthermore, the Cassa together with the European Commission have allocated over 100 million euros to Be Charge, a company wholly owned by Plenitude (Eni), for the creation of one of the largest high-speed charging networks in Europe by 2025. In detail, CDP, as a national promotional institute, has granted a loan of 50 million to which is added another 50,4 million non-repayable allocated by the European Commission for the creation of a network of over 2.000 "ultra-fast" charging points ” along the main European transport corridors of eight countries: Italy, Spain, France, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Slovenia and Greece.
  • Urban transport. Cdp contributed 25 million to a pooled investment of 65 million in total in favor of TPER (Trasporto Passeggeri Emilia-Romagna), the largest company in the area in terms of numbers and volumes of service in the public passenger transport sector. The investments will be aimed at the renewal of the current bus fleet with low-emission vehicles (mainly electric and hydrogen) and the creation of the related infrastructures (mainly electric and hydrogen charging infrastructures for the new bus fleet).
  • Municipal cycle paths. Municipality of Limbiate – Monza Brianza – Lombardy: participation in the financing for 537 thousand euros out of a total of 1,2 million, intended to guarantee a cycle connection between some of the main local hubs. Municipality of Alba Adriatica – Teramo – Abruzzo: financing of 6,2 million euros for the redevelopment and modernization of the cycle and pedestrian path of the Marconi seafront. The entire work also involved the redevelopment of public green areas and the creation of a rainwater collection network on the cycle/pedestrian path.
