Factories in Shanghai, the Chinese metropolis, could be closed for a few days this summer due to a severe shortage of electricity. The news appeared this morning on the pages of the major local newspaper, the Shanghai Daily.
According to the Shanghai Electric Power Co, the company that supplies energy to the Chinese city, the districts at risk are those of Pudong, Yangpu, Baoshan, Minhang and Songjiang. The company has declared that, in the event of a blackout, citizens will take precedence over production plants.
At the root of the problem is the enormous energy absorption due to air conditioners. Precisely for this reason, the days at risk will be the hottest ones, in which electricity consumption skyrockets.
