Truth Week for institutional reforms

Today begins a week of fire on the issue of institutional reforms, starting with the transformation of the Senate. The Constitutional Affairs Commission of the Senate, chaired by Anna Finocchiaro, must first of all decide on the adoption of the basic text of the measure to transform Palazzo Madama. The goal would be to get approval in commission on May 25 and in the classroom on June 10.

After this morning's management meeting, the Democratic Party seminar on reforms coordinated by Minister Maria Elena Boschi is also discussing it in view of the crucial meeting of the Constitutional Affairs Commission of the Senate which must decide which text to adopt for the provision that would like to completely transform Palazzo Madame. This decision is not said to be that simple: the Government would like the Boschi text to be adopted, albeit accompanied by amendments. but the dissidents insist that we start from the text already amended and not from the original one of the Government.

Just over the weekend, the main contractor of the pact on reforms with the Government, namely the leader of Forza Italia, Silvio Berlusconi, proposed that a new hot topic be introduced into the discussion on reforms: presidentialism. Idea already rejected by the leader of the Democratic Party in the Senate, Luigi Zanda, on which, however, the prime minister said he was open to it on condition that presidentialism begins to be talked about after the approval of the Senate reform.

In the meantime, the online consultation on the reform of the public administration continues with the aim that the measures that concern it are transformed into a provision in the Council of Ministers on 13 June. Renzi's program obviously also includes the Italicum, which has already passed to the Chamber, but electoral fibrillation weighs heavily on the whole path of the reforms.
