Sergio Marchionne, one year later: Auditorium at Cern

On 25 July 2018 Sergio Marchionne left. The disappearance of the manager from Abruzzo shook international finance. One year after his death, CERN in Geneva has decided to name the 900-seat auditorium after him, which will be built inside the "Science Gateway", the new center for the education and dissemination of science which will be built on a project by Renzo Piano's architectural studio. The largest room in the new building.

The Science Gateway will consist of exhibition areas and educational laboratories. The cost of its construction will be covered through donations, the largest of which comes from the FCA Foundation, which has decided to allocate 45 million Swiss francs to the work. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2020 and the facility is expected to be completed in 2022.

To remember Sergio Marchionne, John Elkann, president of FCA, also spoke this morning.

“One year after Sergio Marchionne's death, the example he left us is alive and strong in each of us. We will always be grateful to him for showing us, by example, that the only thing that really matters is never settling for mediocrity, always being ambitious in changing things for the better, working for the community and for our future, never for self. Today there are those who remember the enlightened leader, who remember the man, who the friend. We all remember him with immense affection."

“Sergio liked to describe FCA, CNH Industrial and Ferrari as companies full of women and men of virtue. – continued Elkann – People who feel responsible for what they do, who act with determination and courage, who don't hold back when it comes to setting a good example. If our companies are like this today, we owe it to him too”.
