In a country that is aging so rapidly, themandatory insurance against loss of self-sufficiency it has become a matter of "absolute urgency", according to Sergio Corbello, President of Insurance scheme. During an event at the Ninfeo museum in Rome, supported by Axa, Corbello reiterated the need to make Long Term Care (LTC) coverage required by lawHe cited Germany as an example, where this measure was introduced already in the last century.
Although some insurance paths and specific funds already exist in Italy, Corbello stressed that it is essential to implement a system of mandatory coverage for all. This system, according to the president of Assoprevidenza, could be made economically sustainable and widespread, thus reducing the individual burden.
Corbello also suggested using a portion of the sums paid by employers for contractual memberships in negotiated pension funds to finance LTC. This, in his opinion, could facilitate the spread of LTC coverage while waiting for a law that establishes its mandatory nature.
