Berlusconi sentence, Letta: "There will be no earthquakes"

“I don't think there will be earthquakes that are summoned. I am convinced that the situation is much more stable than it is presented”. This was stated by Prime Minister Enrico Letta in reference to the Cassation ruling on the Mediaset case, which could sanction the definitive sentence of Silvio Berlusconi. “I have always followed the line of not commenting on the sentences – added Letta – I will not change it 24 hours after the pronouncement”.

At the moment, no motion has been filed to postpone tomorrow's hearing. In any case, the decision on a possible request for postponement by the lawyers of the Knight or the other defendants could only be made known on Wednesday. If the postponement is not requested, or if the judges choose not to grant it, the verdict on the trial could arrive even on Thursday.

As for the possible consequences of the ruling on government stability, Laura Boldrini, president of the Chamber, expressed herself substantially in line with the positions of the Premier: "I think that individual judicial cases should not interfere in the life and activities of the institutions - she said - So I believe that, whatever the decision of the Cassation, this should not have repercussions on parliamentary life".
