The European Commission has rejected, in a letter sent to the Italian authorities, the current sales plan of Sea Handling, rejecting at the same time the Government's request for an extension, relating to the recovery of state aid received by the company, for a total of 360 million euros.
As it stands now, this is the opinion of the Commission, the sale would not lead to a repayment of the aid, but to its mere transfer. The only viable way, to comply with the decisions of Brussels, seems to be that of splitting up Sea Handling.
After the rejection of the government's request for extension, deemed late and not duly motivated, only the possibility of suspending the decision remains.
