After 17 days at sea, the ordeal of the 42 migrants of the Sea Watch ended: around 1,50 the German captain Carola Rackete decided to dock at the commercial pier of Lampedusa. The operation took place without prior authorization, invoking the state of necessity, and cost her her arrest: an hour after docking, in fact, the financiers boarded and arrested the young German sailor, taking her away on charges of “resistance or violence against warship”, a crime that carries a sentence of between three and ten years. The financiers also dispute the attempted shipwreck regarding the docking manoeuvre, but the judges will decide.
According to the deputy of the Democratic Party Gennaro Migliore, who entered the Finance barracks, the captain is in the commander's room since the barracks do not have a security cell. “Tomorrow she could be transferred to a prison in Sicily”said Best.
