If the house turns into a "home restaurant"

Transforming one's home into a "home restaurant" making use of one's own family organization and using part of the premises of the house in which one lives, whether owned or rented. An “innovative activity that could allow the development of the economy in many regions of our peninsula and above all in those of the South – claims the Hon. Antonino Minardo, popular area –. It is an activity that can offer tourists, and not only them, a typical service, at the same time enhancing the local food and wine heritage, as well as encouraging the development of new jobs", insists the parliamentarian, who has promoted a law for regulate this activity. The text is currently being examined by the Productive Activities Committee of the Chamber.

Obviously, the premises intended for this activity must have the necessary hygienic-sanitary requirements, just as those who operate the catering sector must be in possession of the HACCP certificate for food safety. But the home restaurant activity does not require the change of intended use of the house: it is sufficient to report the start of the activity and then the Municipality will carry out the inspections. For tax and social security purposes, the legislation for occasional activities applies.

The honorable Minardo has no doubts: this proposal "represents for many housewives, but also for many young people, a great opportunity because it allows them to carry out an activity with minimal investments that can represent a driving force for the economy and for employment" .

But perhaps he did not take into account the foreseeable reactions, criticisms, resistances and objections of the owners of restaurants, taverns, fraschette and, in general, public catering establishments.
