Schools, health care, railways, justice: 106 projects underway with PNRR funds

Having collected the first installment of European funding for the PNRR, the Government must demonstrate its spending capacity on the 106 projects presented and link them to the reforms already approved or arriving in September - Here is the overview of the 106 projects

Schools, health care, railways, justice: 106 projects underway with PNRR funds

They are 106 investment projects that Italy must start within the year to justify the check from 24,9 billion euros that the European Commission has given to our country as the first tranche of the funding provided by the Next Generation Eu for the construction of the Recovery and resilience plan (PNRR) presented in recent months by the Draghi government in Brussels.

The projects range between different sectors:

  • from the digitization, innovation and security sector in the Public Administration and in the production system to tourism and culture (Mission 1);
  • from the circular economy and sustainable agriculture to renewable energy, hydrogen, the network and sustainable mobility, from energy efficiency and the redevelopment of buildings to the protection of the territory and water resources (Mission 2);
  • from the high-speed railway network, which makes up the lion's share and includes projects for the connections between Naples and Bari, between Palermo and Catania, between Salerno and Reggio Calabria and between Brescia, Verona and Padua, to intermodality and integrated logistics (Mission 3);
  • from enhancing the offer of educational services (from nursery schools to universities) to research and the transfer of technologies in companies (Mission 4);
  • from active employment policies to social infrastructure, families, communities and the third sector and special interventions for territorial cohesion (Mission 5);
  • from proximity networks, structures and telemedicine for territorial healthcare to innovation, research and digitization of the national health service (Mission 6).

Presenting projects to obtain funding from Europe was important and on this the Draghi Government has done a great job to meet deadlines and make up for delays, but now Italy must demonstrate that it knows how to spend the money received quickly and honestly and – no less – he must know how to mate the implementation of the PNRR projects related to the reforms, starting from those expected for September which concern the taxman, the competition and the completion of the public administration reform.
