School, downward agreement on new hires

An amendment to the simplifications decree was approved in committee in the Chamber which is limited to confirming the current staffing of schools - Any new hires will only come later through a permanent fund headed by the Miur - The new taxes on beer and alcohol will disappear, but the Treasury can still vary the levy on games.

Many greetings to the new 10 jobs in Italian schools, but at least the temporary workers will be able to drink to forget the fleeting hope of a competition. The reference number has disappeared from the amendment more controversial than new simplification decree, also bringing with it the feared increase in excise taxes on alcohol. The price increases were designed precisely to finance the new hires.

In the end, however, the agreement arrived all the same and reconciled everyone: the government, the majority and even part of the opposition. Only the League voted against. The latest version of the text was approved in the early afternoon by the Constitutional Affairs and Productive Activities commissions of the Chamber and is limited to confirm the current staffing of the schools. However, "the cost savings that will be achieved in the Miur - explained Andrea Lulli (Pd) - can be transferred to the hiring of personnel".

"There is no stabilization of precarious workers – reiterated the former Minister of Education, Maria Stella Gelmini – staff needs will be calculated every three years on the basis of the school population”, ie the number of students. As for the fund for merit and quality headed by the Miur, “it will become permanent”. And it is precisely this fund that will be used for any new hires.

However, a loophole remains: the Miur will also be able to count on external resources thanks to the Ministry of the Economy which, through the State Monopolies, will be able vary the levy on games.

The text will now have to be examined by the Budget Committee, then the two committees on the merits will meet again to give the mandate to the rapporteur and the measure will arrive in the Chamber at 16pm.
