How many escorts are there to protect politicians, authorities, magistrates, people at risk, how many law enforcement agencies are involved in this service? An odg accepted by the government - which sees the Northern League deputy Raffaele Volpi as the first signatory - calls for a "substantial reduction" of inventories, in order to allow a greater presence of the police forces on the territory. And the Viminale, in giving an account of the situation, while not specifying whether and how much the service has been reduced, provides the figures: there are over 600 escorts, with the employment of just over 2000 men. The data is updated at the end of April of this year.
The Ministry of the Interior states that "for some public offices of national importance, in consideration of the connected exposure to risk, the protection services are, by express provision of the law, also insured for a period following the end of the office".
Then he goes into detail on the "volume" of the escort service: nationwide, the protection activated involves 552 escorts. Then there are protective measures at the local level: another 44. Then there are a further 43 personal protection services, valid locally, adopted by the provincial public safety authorities. So, 639 escorts. In total, 2007 law enforcement operators are involved: 939 from the police, 681 carabinieri, 253 financiers, 134 men from the penitentiary police.
For obvious reasons, the Interior Ministry does not go into detail on the beneficiaries of these protections. But he also avoids clarifying how much the cost is.
