Collision between trains near Bari: 23 dead (VIDEO)

There was a head-on collision between two Bari Nord line trains, on the single-track railway section between Ruvo di Puglia e Corato. The number of victims is terrible: there would be twenty-three dead and fifty two wounded (8 with a confidential prognosis), stuck in the convoys but unfortunately the account is not definitive. Rescuers and firefighters have worked to extract people trapped by the plates, and it cannot be excluded that, among them, there are further victims.

The accident took place in the countryside and some carriages, as can be seen from the first images, were completely crumpled by the impact between the two trains, which collided with great violence. Each of the two trains consisted of four wagons. The first two carriages of the two trains were destroyed in the collision.

"I think there are many dead" declared the commander of the urban police of Andria, Riccardo Zingaro arriving at the scene of the tragedy. "There was a head-on collision on a single track, some carriages are completely crumpled and rescuers are pulling people out of the metal, many are also injured".

After the news of the accident, the premier also intervened Matteo Renzi, who expressed their condolences for the victims of the disaster. "There is an absolute request to understand those responsible and make total clarity - said Renzi - we will not stop until we clarify what happened".
