David Rockefeller was the head of Chase Manhattan Bank, the institution that later gave birth to JP Morgan Chase – But Rockefeller was perhaps better known as a philanthropist than a banker. In 2006, he bequeathed $1940 million to the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, established with his brothers in 225.

Philanthropist banker David Rockefeller, patriarch of the famous family since 2004, died today at the age of 101. David Rockefeller was the last living grandson of John Rockefeller, the founder of Standard Oil.

David Rockefeller was the number one of Chase Manhattan Bank, the institution that later gave birth to JPMorgan Chase. In the latest issue of Forbes he was listed in 581st place among the wealthiest on the planet and first among the oldest rich thanks to assets of 3,3 billion dollars. 

But Rockefeller was perhaps better known as a philanthropist than a banker. In 2006, he bequeathed $1940 million to the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, established with his brothers in 225. In 2005 he donated 100 million to two major New York institutions: Moma, which he co-founded with his mother, and Rockefeller University, a university launched by his grandfather. In 2008 another 100 million euros had been earmarked for Harvard University in Massachusetts.
