Metalworkers on strike. On Friday 14 June, Fim, Fiom and Uilm called an 8-hour national strike in order to ask the Government and businesses to bring attention back to work, wages and rights in view of the match for the national contract which will expire at the end of the year. At the same juncture they will be held three major events (departure at 9 am) in Milan, Florence and Naples.

The decision – explain the unions in a note “is determined by growing uncertainty about the future view the contraction of industrial production, the loss of value of work, the increase in accidents and deaths at work. Jobs and investments must be put back at the center of the political agenda”.

“The 8-hour general strike and the three demonstrations – he attacks Marco Bentivogli, national secretary of Fim Cisl – are necessary for give a wake up call to the government, and to politics, for months now in perennial electoral campaign. A situation that is wearing down the country's social and economic stability, undermining Italy's credibility on an international level and mortifying work and businesses”.

The unions' requests are clear, becoming even more pressing after the latest data on industrial production, which in April recorded a drop of 0,7%, weighed down by the collapse (-17,1%) of the auto sector.

“Investments, bureaucratic streamlining, access to credit, energy costs, environmental sustainability, training, export support are just some of the chapters completely abandoned by the Government in recent months and which risk plunging the country back into a very serious crisis, which would pay for workers, families and businesses", explains Bentivogli who, adding up the decline in the car sector to the steel crisis and "to the more than 162 disputes opened at the mise ”, speaks of a real “emergency to which the Government is not giving any response and, indeed, many of the disputes that have re-exploded, Whirlpool, Aferpi, Piaggio Aero, Sider Alloys, Arcelor Mittal just to name a few, have as a municipality calledre the total absence of Government and Ministry who, since he took office, has not followed up on these delicate dossiers which required daily verification, monitoring and management work".

Returning to the demonstrations, the program envisages that in Milan the procession will start from Porta Venezia and arrive as far as Piazza Duomo, where the speech by Marco Bentivogli, secretary general Fim-Cisl. In Florence we start from piazza Cavalleggeri and arrive in piazza della Santissima Annunziata, where the intervention of Rocco Palombella, general secretary Uilm. In Naples, the procession will start from Piazza Mancini and arrive in Piazza Matteotti, where it will intervene Frances King DavidFiom general secretary.
