General strike: clashes in Rome, Turin and Padua

In a Europe that takes to the streets and strikes against austerity and the cuts decided by governments, chasing each other and clashes and tensions flare up, with scuffles between demonstrators and the police and several injured in almost all Italian cities stage of the protest.

Harsh clashes, with numerous arrests, in Padua, Brescia, Milan and Naples. The more complicated situations are, however, those of Rome and Turin.

In the capital it's guerrilla warfare on the Lungotevere. On one side the forces of order, with armored vehicles, on the other the demonstrators. The police have attempted to appease the riots by throwing tear gas and at least fifty demonstrators are in custody. Also in Rome, in the afternoon some members of the student block had tried to force a security cordon. The goal is to get below the Parliament, where the votes on the stability law will take place.

Incandescent, as mentioned, also the situation in Turin, where a police officer was attacked and seriously injured by some self-employed persons, in front of the provincial building. The policeman was then transported to the Mauritian hospital. Some demonstrators managed to enter the headquarters of the Province in via Maria Vittoria, replacing the flag of the European Union with that of the No Tav movement.

The words of the German chancellor then came to freeze the fire of protest Angela Merkel, who does not intend to take any step back on austerity"The right to strike is a great right of democracies and this is taken for granted. But what is necessary must be done anyway”.
