General strike, Napolitano: "Notable tension, but exasperations are not good"

"The general strike proclaimed for today is undoubtedly a sign of considerable tension between the unions and the government". The head of state said, Giorgio Napolitano, talking to some reporters in Turin. The President of the Republic hopes that the two parties "discuss both the decisions already taken, such as that of the labor market reform law, and those to be taken, above all for the relaunch of the economy and employment in a European context . It is good that there is mutual respect”, Napolitano added, specifying that the exasperation of the confrontation between the two parties “is not good for the country”.

The phrase "we don't stop" pronounced by general secretary of the CGIL, Susanna Camusso, during an interview with Gr Rai, seems not to follow the wishes of the Head of State. According to the trade unionist, the Executive "is wrong to exclude discussion and participation" with the unions and the priority of work "does not find correspondence in the provisions" in the pipeline.

Before the start of the strike, one of the hottest fronts was that of the railwaymen. After the injunction order initially passed by the Government, yesterday evening the about-face arrived which allowed the railway sector to go on strike today. According to the chairman of the Strike Guarantee Commission, Robert Alesse, today's mobilization in the railway sector "remains in violation of the rules and will have to be carefully evaluated in the coming days". Alesse also explains that "it will be assessed whether the conditions for a sanctioning power are met against unions that have not complied with our immediate indications".

Meanwhile, it general strike today, December 12th, is causing numerous inconveniences especially for those who travel with i public transport in the city. Users of public transport in Rome are the ones who have to face the greatest difficulties. The A, B, B1 and C lines of the Capitoline underground will be closed until 17 pm. The service is also stopped for the Termini-Giardinetti line and for the Rome-Lido line, while the Rome-Civitacastellana-Viterbo line is open but several cancellations are expected in the span of the day.

A Milano, on the other hand, union mobilization should cause less inconvenience to local public transport users. The transport strike will start at 19 and will last until the end of the day.

A Napolifinally, Sita employees will cross arms from 9 to 17, while Eav vehicles will be at a standstill for the whole day.
