Petrol station strike: petrol stations closed for three days from 22pm on Tuesday 8 November

From tomorrow, Tuesday 8 November, and for three days gas station attendants from all over Italy will cross their arms. Only Liguria and Tuscany, recently affected by the floods, will be excluded from the protest.

"Starting from 19.00 on 8 and until 07.00 on 11 November on ordinary roads and starting from 22.00 on 8 and until 06.00 on 11 November on motorways" all petrol stations will remain closed, report the National Unified Coordination of Faib Confesercenti and Fegica Cisl.

For years the trade unions have been waiting for the reform of fuel distribution to cut costs: the petrol stations must pour the income into the state coffers by paying taxes and VAT, therefore they ask for a bonus that protects them.

The unrest will certainly create many inconveniences and discontent among Italian motorists, already victims of numerous increases in the price of fuel, even if it is hoped for a last minute agreement between the government and the trade associations.

To date, on the national average, the price of unleaded petrol is 1,627 euros per litre, while that of diesel is 1,544 euros a liter. Lead-free is decreasing slightly after the record increases of the last period, which reached 1,7 euros per liter in the South. The mobilization of the coming days, as well as causing inconvenience and queues today at the distributors, also risks causing a new increase in prices: consumer associations are already on the alert to report any inaccuracies.
