Petrol station strike 13-14 May: all the information

Petrol stations on strike from tonight and for the next 48 hours on motorways, ring roads and junctions. A stop that risks bringing freight transport to its knees, but also the private one already reduced to a minimum due to the restrictions relating to the coronavirus emergency.

PETROL STRIKE: THE REASONS

After the protests in March - returned in extremis - the category is back on a war footing and announces a 48-hour strike for Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 May. The protests are proclaimed by the Fegica Cisl and Figisc-Anisa Confcommercio unions who invite gas station attendants to strike against the conditions of economic and health emergency in which "management companies continue to be left".

"The indifferent and deaf attitude of the Government, with respect to commitments that have remained a dead letter, undertaken within a negotiating table that has not guiltily met for over a month, is truly incomprehensible", reads the joint note from the trade unions. "Certainly not closing oneself off from confrontation or hoping that everyone - individual or category - gets by on their own, with every means available to them, more or less permitted, that we can contribute to building a governed exit from the crisis for the country" .

Not only that, the unions warn that, without "a change of course by the Government, the protests and closures due to strikes are destined to extend to the rest of the distribution network in the coming weeks".

GASOLINE STRIKE 13-14 MAY: TIMETABLES

The strike, as mentioned, will begin at 22.00 pm on Tuesday 12 May and will end at the same time on Thursday 14 May. 48 hours of protest that risk bringing transport to its knees, creating many inconveniences for citizens and workers.

PETROL STRIKE: THE INFORMATION

The strike will affect the plants on the motorway network, ring roads and junctions. On the other hand, plants present on ordinary road networks are excluded.

The protests of the trade unions have been going on for months. On March 25, the associations had in fact announced the closure of the plants, denouncing that they have been "forgotten" by the Government. "We, on our own, are no longer in a position to ensure either the necessary level of health safety or the economic sustainability of the service", explained the fuel managers. At the time, after a tour de force of meetings the strike was averted thanks to the intervention of the Strike Guarantee Authority and the Government.

This time, however, the strike seems destined to become a reality, despite consumer protests. Massimiliano Dona, president of the National Union of Consumers, states that "In this serious moment for the country, a petrol station strike, in fact, is not only an unacceptable act, but contrary to the regulation of the fuel sector, which provides that , even if they were already regularly underway, they must be suspended in the event of exceptional events of particular gravity, such as the emergency that the country is experiencing due to the Coronavirus".
