Alitalia strike 22 September: Delrio towards injunction

"Nobody wants to compress the right of workers but it is absurd that the right to mobility is questioned". This was stated by Transport Minister Graziano Delrio regarding the strike by Alitalia workers proclaimed by the Anpac-Anpav-Usb unions for Thursday 22 September. "They are both constitutional rights that need to be reconciled", he added on the sidelines of the Innotrans Fair, announcing that the ministry would be evaluating the possibility of a precept.

The strike of pilots and flight attendants, in the intention of the unions, should have a duration of 24 hours. Anpac, Anpav and Usb decided it during the table with the company. Cgil, Cisl, Uil and Ugl have instead decided not to confirm the strike.

"I can only define this decision by Anpac as pure madness, for an airline that currently loses 500.000 euros every single day," wrote Alitalia CEO Cramer Ball in an email to employees. For Ball "this action will cause very significant economic damage", "it will create inconvenience to thousands of customers" and "above all it will jeopardize the future development of Alitalia".
