The policy paper “School canteens: an essential service to reduce inequalities” will be presented at the Press Room of the Chamber of Deputies (via della Missione 4, Rome), Thursday 30 November 2023 at 9am.

School lunches: a right for all children

Il cafeteria service in schools it is a fundamental measure to guarantee the extension of full-time employment and to ensure that all boys and girls, starting from those living in poverty, have at least one healthy meal and balanced daily. In addition to the benefits for health and learning, school canteens also represent an effective tool for socialize. Nowadays, unfortunately, around half of primary school students still do not have access to a school canteen, with strong territorial gaps between the North and the South of the country. The dossier analyzes the situation in Italy and proposes possible solutions.

The presentation of the policy paper by CPI and Save the Children

The meeting will be opened by Giusy D'Alconzo, head of Institutional Relations and Advocacy of Save the Children, while Antonella Inverno, head of Research, Data and Policies of Save the Children and Gilberto Turati, deputy director of the Observatory on Italian Public Accounts, Università Cattolica del Sacro Heart, they will illustrate the contents of the analysis. Also speaking will be Adriana Bizzarri, head of the Cittadinanzattiva School, the Hon. Irene Manzi, member of the Culture, Science and Education Commission of the Chamber of Deputies - Democratic Party, the Hon. Marco Perissa, vice-president of the Suburbs Parliamentary Commission and secretary of the Culture, Science and Education Commission of the Chamber of Deputies - Brothers of Italy, Claudia Pratelli, Councilor for School, Training and Work of the Municipality of Rome. The meeting will be concluded by Raffaela Milano, director of Italy-Europe Programs and Advocacy at Save the Children.
