Scaroni, no space for an incisive tax wedge cut

“The direction (towards the reduction of the tax wedge) is the right one. Then what will be done I fear it won't be much as there is no space for particularly incisive interventions ". These are the statements of Paolo Scaroni, CEO of Eni, who spoke on the sidelines of the conference "Women in business and society" on the cuts in public spending.

When asked about his forecasts for the recovery, Scaroni said: “I don't have my forecasts because Eni works in the world more than in Italy. I hear from highly qualified people, such as Minister Saccomanni and the Bank of Italy, that the recovery is already here. I have no reason not to believe that. What I see, and I feel calmer about this, is that the world is doing better, so we too will do better".

Scaroni also stated: "It doesn't seem to me that there is a government crisis" while he admitted that "Italy is a little behind the European Union and that Europe is behind the rest of the world". As for the possible cut in the salaries of public managers, Scaroni indicated that “yes, maybe it's right, but I'm not a public manager. I have 300 shareholders to whom I am accountable, so I find it a bit strange that it is done by law. If the Government thinks of doing so, it expresses itself in the meeting as a shareholder normally does".
