Postel scandal: Ialongo and Sforza in the storm

The scandal of the false invoicing by Postel, a company 100% controlled by the Italian Post Office, which has incredible origins and which can have implications that are unthinkable at the moment, as revealed in the Plus insert of “Il Sole 24 Ore”. After a trivial roadside check on a Postel service car it was discovered that that car was not carried, as was to be expected, letters or registered letters, but false documents and invoices for around 30 million euros.

Consequently the The Rome prosecutor's office has entered the list of suspects the president of the Italian postal service and of Postel, John Ialongo and the former CEO of Postel, Claudio Sforza. The alleged crime is that of making a fraudulent declaration through the use of invoices or other documents for non-existent operations.

Ialongo is under investigation as the legal representative of the public company whose core business is the management of invoices but it is on Sforza that shadows gather that will have to be clarified. Postel's former CEO was suddenly replaced in September 2011 and the reason was never known. But Sforza subsequently became CEO of Gamenet, the concessionary company of the Ministry of Economy that manages the arcades throughout Italy. Sforza has been installed in the new seat by private shareholders but, given the delicacy of the situation for a government concessionaire, it is unlikely that he will be able to remain in the saddle. But the next few days promise sparks.
