Yesterday evening Polverini met Prime Minister Monti at Palazzo Chigi - The opposition resigns en bloc, but the votes of the UDC will also be needed to force the dissolution of the Regional Council - Two lines in Casini's party: tomorrow at 11 the political office of the party will make the final decision.

Lazio scandal, UDC balances trust in Polverini

Renata Polverini's balancing act continues. And the resignation hypothesis is making headway again. Last night, surprisingly, the governor of Lazio asked to meet Prime Minister Mario Monti. According to what has been learned, during the conversation at Palazzo Chigi the Prime Minister did not receive any support from the former Ugl trade unionist, forced in the last few hours to face the harsh counterattack of the opposition. Also yesterday you were the 14 regional councilors in the Democratic Party announced their "irrevocable resignations".

Shortly after, the 5 members of the IDV, the two from Sel, the green Angelo Bonelli and the socialist Luciano Romanzi also agreed to abandon their seats at the Pisana. Their aim is to force the dissolution of the Council by leading to the resignation of 36 members out of 70. To achieve the objective, however, they will also have to convince the six representatives of the UDC, who however are part of the majority and have so far confirmed their support for Polverini.

In fact, Pier Ferdinando Casini does not intend to pull the plug on Polverini: “The Pd's controversy makes me run away from laughing and crying – said the UDC leader to the microphones of Sky -. Have they noticed now that there is waste? Why didn't they notice it when they voted in the bureau?”.

Rocco Buttiglione, president of the party, has a completely different opinion: ”La Polverini would do well to leave, she can't ignore it – she said in an interview with Repubblica -. You would have done better to resign for the dignity of yourself and of all politics. If I were in the place of our advisers, I would resign, but I respect the autonomy and ideas of our local politicians”.

In the national UDC, the tendency to consider the experience of the Polverini government over would prevail. But two hypotheses would have remained in the field: immediate withdrawal of confidence, or, in an attempt at extreme mediation, withdrawal of confidence following the approval of a new package of cuts.

The political secretary of the UDC, Lorenzo Cesa, announced that he has summoned the political office of the party for tomorrow at 11 to take a definitive decision. The meeting will be attended by the parliamentarians of Lazio and the regional councilors of the UDC. And finally the balance will shift.
