Italian regions increasingly in the eye of the storm. After the Lazio case, which led to the resignation of the Polverini junta and the arrest this morning of the former leader of the PDL Franco Fiorito, today it was also the turn of Emilia-Romagna to enter the crosshairs of the investigators. In fact, the Guardia di Finanza showed up this morning at the headquarters of the Bologna regional council to notify the presidency and the council groups of some requests from the judiciary investigating the expenses of politicians in the region. The public prosecutor's office of the Emilian capital has in fact already opened an investigation for embezzlement against unknown persons on funds received by regional political groups in 2011 and this year.
The soldiers arrived around 10 this morning, while the regional assembly was meeting to discuss spending cuts. The financiers asked the bureau for the budgets of the groups for the years 2005-2010, while the groups were notified individually of the request to acquire the report of the expenses incurred in the current legislature.
