Scala, Butterfly triumphs without politicians

Great success for Madama Butterfly, which opened the season last night Scala of Milan. Puccini's opera received thirteen minutes of applause for Madama Butterfly, 112 years after its world premiere which, in 1904, was greeted by volleys of boos. Applause for everyone, therefore, from the director Riccardo Chailly, who wanted to respect the general work as much as possible, to the director Alvis Hermanis, passing through the Uruguayan soprano Maria Josè Siri, who played the role of the protagonist.

The show, at La Scala, does not end only on stage. Among the many prominent present, however, the world of politics is missing. The post-referendum government crisis forced the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella to Rome, as well as the President of the Senate Pietro Grasso and the ministers Pier Carlo Padoan and Dario Franceschini.

The world of finance, on the other hand, was widely represented. Among those present were the CEO of Unicredit Jean Pierre Mustier, Fabrizio Viola, the new CEO of Popolare Vicenza and the CEO of Intesa Sanpaolo Carlo Messina, as well as the president of Cdp Claudio Costamagna, the banker Gerardo Braggiotti, the CEO of Poste Francesco Caio and Arnaud de Puyfontaine, CEO of Vivendi and Vice President of Telecom. And again, the former banker Corrado Passera and the general staff of ENI, represented by the president Emma Marcegaglia and the CEO Claudio Descalzi.

In the Royal box, however, sat the mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala, the president of the Lombardy Region Roberto Maroni, the prefect of Milan Alessandro Marangoni, and four representatives of the areas affected by the earthquake, invited by the Municipality of Milan.
